Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre – Co-generation System

Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre – Co-generation System

About Project

This GNPCC project involved the construction of a new electrical/control building and infrastructure for Owner supplied biogas conditioning equipment and co-generation equipment. This new cogeneration facility uses biogas as a fuel source and produces both heat for the sewage treatment plant and electricity that is fed back into the power grid. This facility is the first treatment plant of its size in Canada to install cogeneration equipment, harnessing energy from waste gas. Previously, about 60% of the gases produced were flared, or wasted. Now, this facility is expected to produce about 335 kW of power daily, enough to power more than 300 homes.
