Located on the Canadian Air Force Base in Lazo (Comox) BC, the new structural steel, steel stud and concrete block building features an in-ground pipe-in-pipe steam and condensate system. When complete, the facility will house dental operatories, hydrotherapy and physiotherapy rooms, GP exam rooms, dietitian offices, X-ray services and mental health offices. While not targeting certification, the Department of National Defence considers this a ‘LEED shadowing’ project, taking into consideration things such as IAQ, waste management, and sediment & erosion control. Unique features include a Douglas Fir glulam atrium and an underfloor air distribution system (+32,000 sf of access flooring).
Recipient of a Finalist Award in the Community-Institutional category at the 2013 VIREB Commercial Building Awards.
