Building With The Future In Mind

IWCD is committed to preserving and protecting the beauty of Canada’s West Coast now and for the future by initiating and implementing sustainable design and green building practices that promote the health and well-being of building occupants, the community and the environment. As a proud leader in sustainable building on Vancouver Island, we strive to create beautiful, innovative structures that reduce the impact on the built environment and preserve our valuable resources while achieving long-term growth and profitability for our clients.

From the design phase through to construction, we strive to incorporate the following:

  • Stormwater management plans/erosion and sediment control.
  • Use of recycled and recyclable building products.
  • Low water consumption options on plumbing fixtures.
  • Locally harvested/manufactured building products.
  • Low energy consumption electrical fixtures.
  • Use of low VOC products.
  • Energy-efficient mechanical systems.
  • Recycling of construction waste materials.

As a testament to our company values and commitment to environmental responsibility, IWCD built a state-of-the-art LEED Gold certified building to serve as its headquarters in Nanaimo, BC. To reduce our ecological footprint, IWCD also continues to employ a comprehensive recycling program both on-site and in the office, diverting more than 75% of our daily waste from the landfill.

As one of the first to identify and incorporate site management into sustainable design, IWCD is at the forefront of green infrastructure innovation and has led a variety of green projects across Vancouver Island. IWCD design-build green projects include Inland Kenworth in Nanaimo, BC, the auto construction of the Mazda and Toyota dealerships in Courtenay, BC, and the construction management of the IWCD developed Green Rock Industrial Business Park in Nanaimo, BC.
