North Island College Trades Training Facility

IWCD completed work on the new trades training facility just in time for the spring semester. Not originally slated to be a LEED project, the consultants, trades and IWCD leapt in to action at the beginning of the project to make the switch to LEED Gold. The finished product is a showcase of the future of construction, the perfect setting for those just stepping into the industry.

The wood-frame building was constructed using the green building standards required of LEED, including the use of locally harvested and recycled-content materials, low-VOC adhesives and paints, and energy-efficient heating/cooling and lighting systems.

The Trades Training Facility received an Award of Merit in the Institutional category at the 2011 VIREB Commercial Building Awards.
